The film city Munich has cinemas to suit almost every taste. The
Royal, also the Maxx chain, sell tickets up to one week in advance.
Besides the large movie houses there are art cinemas (Isabella, Rottman,
Türkendolch, Arena, Maxim), as well as places showing a different film
each day and films in their original version (Cinema,
Museumslichtspiele). Programmes can be consulted in the daily papers (but seldom in the
evening editions).
In addition to the international Documentaries Festival, smaller
events exist for special-interest groups, such as the Phantasy Film
Festival or the Gay and Lesbian Film Festival.
Popular beyond the city limits are the open-air performances on
Königsplatz (July) as well as those in Westpark (July/August).
