See Berlin’s City Centre by public transport if you don’t want to spend a whole day looking for a parking space.

Underground, buses and trams belong to BVG, Berlin’s public transport company. The City Railway (S-Bahn) is run by the railway company Bahn AG. Both companies have come to a ticketing agreement. Tickets are valid on all of their public service vehicles. There are three price zones (AB, BC and ABC). Most tourists confine themselves to the city centre (AB). A ticket costs  € 2,20 (valid for two hours; interrupting your journey is allowed, but no transfers and rides back). A Kurzstrecke (for a short period) costs € 1,20 , a day pass € 5,80 (for all three price zones € 6 ). Starting at three rides this ticket is already beneficial. For people travelling with family or in a group, the cheapest ticket is the Kleingruppenkarte (a maximum of 5 persons): € 14,80 (AB), 14,30 (BC) or15 (ABC).

The CityTourCard is new and is valid for just one person for 48 (€ 14,50) or 72 (€ 18,90)hours in the fare zone AB. With this ticket you also get a few additional discounts.

Bus route 100 follows the following route: Zoo Station, Tiergarten, Brandenburger Tor, Unter den Linden, Alexanderplatz and on to Prenzlauer Berg. Bus route 200 goes from the Zoo to the Potsdamer Platz and further through Unter den Linden to the Alexanderplatz. On the most important routes there are several buses and trams, like MetroLinie (M). They go rather frequently and circulate from approx. 4am until midnight.

During the weekend (Friday and Saturday night) a few of the S-Bahn lines have continuous night service (every hour) as do underground lines U9 and U12. Night buses after closing time of underground (at around half past midnight) every half hour.

The "Welcome Card" gives in exchange for € 22 a free pass (for 72 hours valid for one adult and a maximum of three children) on all bus routes, S-Bahn lines and underground lines of the Berlin Brandenburg collective public transport company VBB.

It will also get you a discount on city coach tours, museum and theatre visits as well as other attractions. For sale at tourist information bureaus, hotels and VBB-sales points.
