Shopping
Most shops in the city centre remain open for business until 8pm (Saturday 4pm). On occasion of special events shops are also open on Sundays.
Berlin has dozens of shopping centres and streets. Much loved are the new "Potsdamer Platz Arkaden" right on Berlin’s most fascinating square.
Large department stores and clothes shops a.o. along Kurfürstendamm/Tauentzienstrasse, in the Wilmersdorfer Strasse Pedestrian Precinct and Steglitzer Schlossstrasse. Kurfürstendamm (especially between Bleibtreustrasse and Olivaer Platz) is still considered an eldorado for luxury brands (clothing, perfume, leather goods);
You’ll find Prada, Burberry, Jil Sander and Cartier at the corner Ku’damm/ Wieland. "Quartier 206" and other shops in Friedrichstrasse ooze the same exclusive image.
Unusual shops can be found in sidestreets of Ku’damm, in Kreuzberg’s Bergmannstrasse, in Schöneberg’s Goltzstrasse and in the Centre around Hackesche Höfe as well as in Prenzlauer Berg.
Worth seeing for its own sake is KaDeWe (Kaufhaus des Westens or Department Store of the West): Tauentzienstrasse 21-24, Schöneberg, tel. 2 12 10.This is the largest department store on the European continent. An incredibly large choice of all kinds of goods and brands. Section for gourmets selling every vegetable known to man.
