Olympiastadion
U2 Olympia Stadion
The
refreshed Olympiastadion was festively inaugurated in the summer of
2004 and is ready for the 2006 WorldCup.
The expensive rebuilding works, executed by the architect’s firm
Gerkan, Marg & Partner, provided the stadium that was built for the
Olympics of 1936, with a spectacular roof and the very newest in the
technology field, so it can serve as a concert arena as well. The
U-shaped glass roof is spectacular, with its high tech illumination
‘Ring of Fire’, which overloads the sportsmen or artists in the arena
with light and leaves the public to enjoy itself in the dark. Here the
opening ceremony and the finals (July 9) of the WorldCup will take
place and the four matches of the first round (June 12, 15, 20, 23)
and a quarterfinals as well (June 30).
